Dorm Room Style

Dorm Room IdeasIt has been a while since this girl thought about dorms and college! If I could decorate my dorm room all over again, I would definitely take a much different approach. I remember being so clueless about decor coming out of high school and being so thankful that my freshman year roommate outfitted our room for us. She got hot pink, black and white. And while it was cool at the time, I’ve decided to pull together some of my favorite looks which include hues of turquoise…which will shock no one! I love this dorm room style and how it seems calming and invigorating at the same time!

You need something like this that is light and airy to make your room feel larger! I found sometimes with all the black and white and pink that it made the room feel a little tight. At the time, of course, I didn’t really think about it and I just thought it was really fun! Now I realize it’s important to choose colors that won’t overwhelm you in a small space and that help to make it feel bigger.

This is a good exercise for me because after this year, Eric and I will hopefully be moving from our condo to a new house. So thinking back on old experiences and what I’ve learned since then helps me think through how I’ll want to decorate our new home as well. I want a really clean look and feel with lots of neutrals, fresh linens, and then pops of color much like this fantasy dorm room I’ve styled above. If you like this look, here’s the details from Pottery Barn Dorms:

I am IN love with that duvet cover! I never got to live in a dorm. I opted for my own apartment but if I could do it all over again, dorm it is! Those are just experiences no one can buy! 🙂

I was happily married when I attended college, but I did have fun helping my kids decorate theirs. Love the colors in the comforter – beautiful room!

My dorm room in college and my room in graduate school were a mess. This looks so cute! I wish I would have had better style back then. This post gives me some great ideas for how to decorate the rooms in our house now!

I poor dorm room was so bland and lifeless. I wish I had more of a decor clue back then, I certainly wouldn’t have picked cartoon sheets.
