Pregnancy Safe Skincare

Today I’m welcoming a blogging friend I met several years ago at Blissdom Blog Conference! She is a southern girl from Texas and she’s sharing some of her best skincare tips with us. And coming from this beauty guru, you’ll want to listen up!

Hello, friends! I’m Meg and I blog over at Meg O. on the Go. If you are looking for some beauty, parenting, vlogging, and lifestyle fun, come on over and say hi. Let’s be friends! A big thanks to Heather for having me here today.

One thing that I’m incredibly passionate about is skincare. I believe in using simple yet potent ingredients. I am not going to spend tons of money on products, unless I know it will absolutely be worth the investment. I do a ton of research before buying anything, and I read labels like crazy. I look for active ingredients and things that are going to really work well with my skin. I also look for an all-natural solution before I find a commercial product.

I have a three-year-old and a nine-month-old. Each pregnancy was very different on my skin. With my first, I was breaking out like crazy, and with the second, I was super sensitive although I had occasional breakouts. With some research and advice from my dermatologist, I nailed a a routine down that kept me free of breakouts, kept my skin hydrated, and did an excellent job of exfoliating.

So, today, I bring you a list of some of my favorite pregnancy safe skincare picks and why I love them so much. Please note that I am no medical professional, and it’s important for you to get the green light from your doctor before incorporating new products into your skincare routine. I hope some of my mama-to-be friends can find this information useful. Pregnancy safe skin care is important! Even if you aren’t pregnant, I have some pretty darn good recommendations that address anti-aging, hyperpigmentation, hydration, and breakouts. Win, win!

Pregnancy-Safe-Skincare

Cleanser

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Facial Cleanser – all natural gentle cleanser with willow bark extract, which is a natural form of salicylic acid. Great choice for expecting moms who suffer from breakouts.

Basq Rebalancing Facial Cleanser – super gentle cleanser, great for sensitive skin. Has a bit of exfoliating micro beads, but is still very gentle.

Toner

Michael Todd True Organics Blue Green Algae Toner – Gentle, moisturizing, antibacterial, and full of amino acids. Great for all skin types, but especially sensitive and acne prone.

Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel – Fantastic toner for oily skin, and completely natural. It’s great at combatting oil and prepping the skin.

Serum

Make Up Artist’s Choice Mandelic Acid Serum – Fantasic anti-aging serum that is an alpha-hydroxy acid. AHAs are great for exfoliating the skin, and mandelic acid is gentle on skin. Over time, it’s known to help with hyperpigmentation. If you are suffering from pregnancy-induced melasma, this may be a great product to help you combat it.

Pure Hyaluronic Acid – Every skin plumper, moisturizer, and anti aging treatment on the market is bound to have hyaluronic acid. It is a powerful and potent ingredient. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found within the body, and its function is to bind to water and lubricate moveable parts of the body. When you apply hyaluronic acid to the face, it holds in water and moisture, keeping your skin supple and hydrated. Instead of buying an expensive moisturizer that is bound of have hyaluronic acid, why not just buy the ingredient itself? It is a gel-like consistency that is completely odorless and colorless. It does not burn or sting and isn’t irritating. You will see a dramatic difference in the plumpness of your skin by using this! If you take one thing away from me today, this is the stuff that you want in your routine. Pregnant or not pregnant!

Moisturizer

Rosehip Seed Oil – If you do a quick internet search on rosehip seed oil, you will find tons of articles that will tell you the benefits of using this oil (for example, this one). It is highly moisturizing, has a potent amount of antioxidants. It’s great for all skin types. I use this at night.

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil – This should really be put in the “all purpose” category, because coconut oil can really do so many things! I love using it in my hair as part of my DIY hot oil treatment, it is a fantastic makeup remover, and a great night time moisturizer. I also love using this in place of eye cream and hand cream.

So, there you have it! If you want to do a little more reading and research, I wrote a post on my blog about my pregnancy safe skincare routine with an accompanying video. Hope you all found this helpful!
