Do you have memories of your Dad that bring a smile to your face? I am a daddy’s girl and absolutely do. People told me growing up that I looked like my dad…I got the wave in his hair, have the “Mackey stomach” and tend to have his sarcasm come out in my day to day conversations. To say I’m a big fan would be an understatement! 🙂 The two photos in this post are two of my favorites of us.
The one above, he’s wearing a Birmingham Bulls shirt which is where my love for hockey started. As a little girl, he would take my sister and I to watch games with him to get out of my mom’s hair and we would have a blast. We’d occasionally get to get ice cream or a lemonade and I remember loving doing the chicken dance, hearing all the great music and watching the Bulls girls like my idols. The hockey game was fun but really it was just an excuse to enjoy a great night of fun with my daddy. And, yes at the age of 28, I still call him daddy…it’s a southern thing perhaps?
We always joke that I had to marry a “damn yankee” so I could find a man who loved hockey like my dad, ha! The picture below is the photo of us right when the doors opened and I saw my yankee for the first time on our wedding day. I’m so glad I had my dad there to walk me down the aisle, who taught me to dust off and put some dirt on it when I fell, who made me tough and gave me a sense of humor and to not take life too seriously. He instilled the importance of going to church in us and taught us to live for a thrill in different areas of life. I love him and my mom so much and am so thankful for their marriage and the influence they are on our family.
