What do you think of when you hear the term healthy? Healthy is defined according to the dictionary as, “possessing or enjoying good health or a sound and vigorous mentality.” Health encompasses much more than just a fit physique. Being healthy is about your mind and your body.
Many times, our busy schedules overtake healthy habits we know we should form or prolong though. So, I came up with 5 simple ways to live a healthy lifestyle that are doable and actionable. These are things that I have challenged myself to do in this fall season and I hope it inspires you to live a healthier lifestyle as well.
1. Take some deep breaths. I’ve read over and over again that stress levels continue to rise in the U.S. When you start to feel stressed, try to stop and take a few 5 second inhales and exhales to calm your nerves.
2. Wash your hands. Unfortunately, colder weather usually means more colds, running noses and sore throats. Give yourself a fighting chance and wash your hands and load up on Vitamin C.
3. Reflect. I mean it. Set an alarm on your phone daily or weekly to stop and ask yourself how you’re doing. How are you feeling? How are your relationships? What do you need to address?
4. Ditch the sodas. Even if you’re drinking diet sodas, it’s still so bad for you. Diet sodas have been show to make people gain weight! It’s not worth it friends…and if you can’t totally cut them out, reduce your intake as much as you can.
5. Lighten up. Laughter is the best medicine! Let yourself go and laugh with a girlfriend or watch a comedy, whatever you need to do to unwind. Play a game with your pet or watch your favorite funny tv show but let yourself release somehow.
Don’t you owe it to yourself? To your family? To your spouse? To be happy and healthy. Take the time to take care of yourself and maybe when you start to implement these simple steps the bigger picture will all come together. Great post! People need to realize being healthy doesn’t just mean eating salads for every meal, being thin, it means taking care of your mind/soul/enjoying yourself.
